Week Three- Digital Learning

This child is displaying signs of being digitally literate by sending an email. The second reading i chose was the digital learning: how it affects teaching practices and networked learning futures. The basic idea i got from this reading was that being able to access the internet is known as ‘digital literacy’.  I also found it interesting that there is an ever popular belief that a persons ability to be able to use and understand literacy now goes beyond text and print.

I agree with this reading. I feel that it is extremey important for children to develop digital literacy skills if they are going to be able to function in the outside world once they leave school. Technology and digital literacy has become a major part of today’s society and i feel it is essential that these skills be taught to children over their 13 years of education.

Which learning style/s does this ICT support? This item supports visual learners, as they are able to see the child using his email. This item however would not be as effective for many topics as other items may be.

How could ICT be implemented as a good cognitive tool within the learning environment?  This could be used as an ICT tool as children can find their own photos and many children may find different photos on their topic, where it be about things that start with a certain letter or aspects of weather. The children can discuss their photo and way they chose it.

How is this ICT enabling the development of creativity? By finding a photo on the Internet or in clipart in Microsoft word they are using their creativity to think if pictures to do with that topic. For example if they are finding something that starts with the letter ’a’ one child may have ant or apple, while another child may chose astronout or anaconda. This is allowing that child to be creative.
