Week 5- Technology
Teacher Pedagogical Belief: The Final Frontier in our Quest for Technology Integration
Technology in teachingis mainly teacher centred instead of student based. Most teachers agree that technology is good for teaching but do not know how to use technology effectively. However, courses are becoming more readily available for teachers to increase their skills and knowledge. It takes 5-6 years for teachers to implement student centred teaching into lessons about and using technology. Technology is only useful for teachers who have access to technology, who have the appropriate skills and who work with tehcnology within the curriculum guidelines.
I agree with this article. I feel that technology can improve the quality of teaching and make lessons interesting and fun for the students. From my experiemence, teachers who do not have the appropriate technology skills implement little if any technology into their everyday lessons. Many lessons in technology are not taught by the classroom teacher but by another teacher who has the skills required. I feel it is necessary for teachers to be supplied with continuous inservices and education as the technology and software is continually changing.
Which learning style/s does this ICT support? This will support all learning styles I believe, however, maybe children who learning musically instead of someone who doesnt. However, everyone tends to remember lyrics to a song the first or second time they hear the song, but people strong to memorize the text book or their study notes.
How could this ICT be implemented as a good cogniive tool within the learning environment? This ICT is best implemented into the younger classroom, mainly kindergarten, as songs become harder to find in the older years. Song like, 5 little ducks and 5 little monkeys swinging in a tree help children with their maths skills.
How is this ICT enabling the development of creativity? By allowing children to make up and record their own songs about the subject the students are displaying and using not only their creative side but their musical talent as well.
